Labor Story

Here's mummy with me still inside, preparing for birth. Here's what we went through:

10th Feb 2006

  • 2.00pm - Check into Thomson Medical Centre room #315
  • 2.30pm - Insert tablet (ouch ouch ouch...I highly suggest that nurses use rubber gloves instead of those plastic ones when poking us please.) Stay in bed for an hour.
  • 3.30pm - Ooh...finally can get off the bed. Went to view babies in the nursery, watch t.v...nothing's happening.
  • 6.00pm - Yummy, dinner's here.
  • 8.30pm - Nurse came to bring mummy to the labour ward. At the waiting room, mummy was shaved and made to go poo poo..
  • 9.00pm - went into labor room #1, oh hello Dr. Soong! Dr. Soong poked her finger inside for quite some time, then said had to do it again cos can't reach..Mummy didn't know what Dr. Soong was doing.
  • So Dr. Soong tried again and this time, there was a 'pop' sound and warm water gushing out..mummy said,"oh..you burst my waterbag!" Dr. Soong,'Yes, dear, what did you think I was doing?"
  • Found that Mummy was having slight fever. Dr. Soong said baby's head was still quite high, but she said,"Tracy, I have confidence in your cervix."
  • So needles were poked in for the drip and oxytoxin. That's when the contractions started coming, but still bearable...Squirmed around, thankfully daddy was smart enough to just stay by the bed and silently held mummy's hand.
  • 11.30pm - pain was unbearable, contractions hitting 100. Tried the gas mask, yucks it smells like exhaust fumes.
  • Decided to go for epidural. Dr. Chong came, even asked, "Tracy, very painful huh?" Mummy gave him the *&$^%@( look.
  • Was made to curl into a prawn and epidural was administered. Soon, legs felt numb and woah...what a relief.
  • Not sure what time, nurse came in and found that Megan's heartbeat was very weak. Gave mummy the gas mask to try and relax.. thankfully all was well.
  • Daddy returned to ward to sleep. Was asked to return at 7am.
  • Mummy stayed awake and kept monitoring Megan's heartbeat on the monitor. Mummy was shivering terribly, side effect of epidural.
  • 7.00am sharp - Daddy returned. Mummy was shivering very badly, felt some pressure down there. Nurse checked and reported 8cm dilated.
  • 8.00am - Dr. Soong came in, looked at Mummy and said,'You look terrible.' Then she checked the charts and said,'Dear, shall we go for c-section? Baby is in distress. It's for the best.' Mummy was almost in tears already, but signed the consent form and off we go...
  • Wheeled into operating theatre and opened up. Daddy came in, nurse asked if mummy wanna hold his hand, mummy once again gave nurse the *&^$% look.
  • Felt some tugging, pulling and suddenly 'pop'...heard baby's cries..Dr. Soong carried baby and showed mummy, 'Tracy, your baby!!' Mummy said, ' Naughty girl'.......
  • Then mummy was semi-unconscious already...
